THE FOOD CHAIN REEL

by Lyle Lofgren
June, 1993

[Note: This song was written in response to some fear-inducing items that were in the news at the time.
I tried to calm everyone down by explaining the principle involved]

(To be sung to the tune of "Turkey in the Straw")

1. While she was diving near the Barrier Reef,
A Great White Shark came and bit her with his teeth.
They said that the shark mistook the diver for a seal,
But it doesn't really matter, 'cause a meal is a meal.

CHORUS:
You take it all in when you eat every day,
But then, at the end, you gotta give it all away,
Your heart is protein, and so is your brain,
They're all just parts of the Great Food Chain.

2. A big Grizzly Bear was trundling through the woods,
When she came upon an odor, and it smelled pretty good,
And the thread that was used in the sleeping bag seams
Was just as good as dental floss to keep her teeth clean.
CHO.

3. So don't you believe what the old preachers say,
You don't need forgiveness, you don't need to pray
For eternal life, 'cause you'll get your chance
When your turn comes for to fertilize the plants.
CHO.
